Know Before You Go
Be a steward of the land. Be prepared. Have fun!
With a growing number of people visiting our public lands every year, it is imperative that we all take a leadership role in keeping our wild spaces healthy and safe. By practicing responsible backcountry use - specifically when it comes to bears, fire, and human waste - we can help ensure more enjoyable and sustainable backcountry experiences for everyone. Additionally, things can change quickly in the mountains, so make sure that before you head out that you are prepared with the proper equipment, knowledge, and skills necessary to keep you safe and happy in the backcountry.
Below are a few helpful reminders of best practices in the backcountry that we have put together with the help of the local Forest Service from the Aspen-Sopris Ranger District as well as our recommended backcountry checklist.
Come stop by Bristlecone before your next big adventure and talk with one of our knowledgeable staff - we would be happy to answer any questions you may have!
